Day 37: Bambi finds a new mom

Colin
As we didnt have to pack up the camping gear we slept in a bit and still hit the road before 8. Saying a quick goodbye to our hosts and their veritable pack of dogs (8 i believe) we headed north to Rensselaer for groceries.
After running our errands we hit the road but less than an hour later crossed into the eastern time zone and suddenly it was late morning.
With the temperature hovering in the mid nineties we found ourselves in the unfamiliar position of actively hoping for rain.
We stopped in a little town called Buffalo to eat lunch on a picnic bench and buy a slurpee from the local convenience store. While there, we had what is probably the most bizarre experience of our trip.
Two big pickup trucks sat next to the park with three people engaged in conversation. We were pretty focused on our pepperoni and cheese sandwiches and so did not pay any attention until we saw one of the men take a live fawn out of the bed of his truck and pass it to a woman who carried it over and put it into the cab of her truck.
They all departed in short order leaving us with the impression that we had just witnessed a transaction of dubious legality. This confused us to no end and so we spent much of the afternoon discussing various theories involving the underground whitetail-deer-based economy and what the market price for little Bambi may have been.
Needing to do laundry and seeing evening thunderstorms in the forecast we headed down a pleasantly shaded rail trail to exotic Peru, Indiana to find lodging.
85 miles

2547 miles total.
