Day 8: Over the Plateau

Colin:

After a short, steep climb into Kettle Falls we stopped by the local high school where they were kind enough to allow us to fill our bottles. Then it was off to head east through the valley towards colville. After making good time past small ranches and alfalfa farms we crossed a set of railroads into colville.
Our route was blocked by some road construction while the first innacuracy on the map kept us from efficiently finding a new route. About 40 minutes later we found our way back onto the route and headed off.
We then climbed up to a plateau on which we stayed until early afternoon. We stopped for lunch by the Crystal Falls overlook and eventually at the Beaver Creek lodge and resort. I got a coffee and carol had a soda while we chatted with the proprietor about the area, the weather and our trip.
Soon after we began a short trip down into the town of Ione. While we were amused by a helicopter hovering about a foot off of the ground for reasons beyond our comprehension, the town did not seem terribly inviting so we continued onto the panhandlers creek campground to spend the evening next to a river. We made camp as a few minor showers passed through the area, representing the first rain of our trip.

75 miles.

479 miles total.
