Day 7: Forget Plan C, we're going straight for Plan D

Carol:

Though the morning was cold, we got an early start to the day and ambled up Wauconda Pass. While not as steep as Loup Loup or Rainy Pass, it was certainly much longer at about 24 miles.
We had lunch most of the way back down at Sweat Creek, where the creek was neither visible nor the atmosphere sweaty.
We got to the mining town of Republic before 1pm with about 40 miles under our belt. Colin's mom had given us a good framework of Plan A is your intention/expectation  for the day, Plan B is the worst case scenario/bail out situation and Plan C is the things are going great so push yourself a bit. In Republic, we decided over coffee and a basket of tater tots that it was a Plan C day. We headed out for Sherman Pass, the tallest year-round pass in Washington state.
At the top of Sherman Pass, we decided to push on rather than set up camp in a site without water. Off to Kettle Falls we went! We decided to call this route Plan D- exceeding all expectations, we climbed 7500 ft in a day and rode 83 miles - a record thus far!
We were rewarded with a 25 mile descent quiet site by lake roosevelt just outside of Kettle Falls.

84 miles.

404 miles total.
