Day 16: A Seven Bear Day

Carol:

After a day in Yellowstone, I can truly say the world is an incredible place. The terrain fluctuates between dense snow-frosted woods; shrub-speckled river valleys; and alien landscapes made of boiled trees, gurgling craters, and cerulean pools. We began the day by awaiting the eruption of Old Faithful which lived up to its name. After the timely and impressive sight we visited the geyser basins. I learned that a mudpot still has water underground, hence the bubbling mud, while a fumarole is dry and can only burst out puffs of steam. We spent the day taking in scenic views of Yellowstone Lake and waterfalls. However, the highlight of the day was seeing a wide variety of wildlife including: herds of bison and calves, muledeer, pronghorn deer, a coyote, 2 grizzly bears and their 3 cubs, and a black bear and her cub - bringing our total bear count for the day to 7! Alas, no wolves were to be found, but there's always next time!

No change.

782 miles total.
