Day 18: Tailwind to Reed Point

Carol:

After a fantastic breakfast with Kathy and Rick, accompanied by conversations on the military draft, the crow and cheyenne reservations and life in the 70s, we hit the road around 11am.
Given the strong tailwinds, we hit 80 miles by 5pm having emerged from the mountains out onto the plains. However, the debris on Interstate 90 left us with a flat to end our day. We rolled into Reed Point, population of 200, only to find the RV camp without vacancies. Luckily, the camp owner directed us to the local church for some tent space. After a quick call and text message to the pastor, we secured camp space on the church lawn. Through another bit of good fortune, the youth minister, who lived across the street, opened the doors to the church so that we could use the restroom and thr kitchen. The youth minister also served as the town's math teacher, teaching grades 7-12, with no class larger than 9 students. Coming from NY public schools with each class loaded up to the 33 student maximum, this was quite the shock to me. After an informative conversation with the youth minister, we settled into our cold pizza dinner and evening of rest.

84 miles.

955 miles total.
