Day 15: Ghost Towns and Geysers

Colin:

Our first full day off the bikes began with fruit smoothies and a few final tips about optimizing our Yellowstone experience from Jean. We set out bright and early heading over the less trafficked of 2 potential passes over the Continental Divide heading south. It took me a significant time to get used to driving 70 mph down the Montana highways after a slower pace on the bikes. Our first stops were Nevada City and Virginia City, a pair of ghost towns, which have been restored into living history museums. Many of the buildings and their contents are original and having arrived before the opening, we were treated to the true ghost town experience.
After making our way through the settlement, we embarked again to Yellowstone, gaining significant elevation and paralleling the Rockies the entire way. Upon arriving in Yellowstone, we were immediately greeted by a huge bison-inspired traffic jam. Shortly after, we made our way into the heart of the park. We darted about seeing geysers, mudpots, waterfalls and so much more.
The grandeur of the landscape and the native wildlife defy description, so I'll let the photos speak for themselves.
Thanks to my dad's gifting of a hotel stay, we spent the night in unaccustomed luxury at the Old Faithful Snow Lodge.

No change.

782 miles total.
